Our New Punta Gorda Charlotte Library

Some background of the Punta Gorda Charlotte Library and Historical Archives

The City of Punta Gorda gave Charlotte County 6.2 acres of land for what was proposed to be called the South County Community Library and Archives. This site is located at 401 Shreve Street and adjacent to the History Park. This new library replaces the previous 9,145 square foot Punta Gorda Library, which was the smallest in the county as well as the second busiest.

The estimated $6.9 million project cost was being paid from the Charlotte County Sales Tax Extension 2015 Fund. The Charlotte County Commission approved Harvard Jolly, Inc. of Sarasota to design and build the new library. Harvard Jolly have built 55 other Florida libraries, specializing in Old Florida design. They are members of the American Library Association and the Florida Library Association.
